Castillo de Gibralfaro in Malaga
Gibralfaro Castle is a fortress located in the city of Málaga, Andalucía (Spain).
It was built during the fourteenth century by Yusuf I of Granada, on an ancient Phoenician site also contained a lighthouse that gives its name to the hill Gibralfaro (Jbel-Faro, or mountain of light).
The castle was under heavy siege by the Catholic Monarchs during the summer of 1487. After the siege, Ferdinand took up residence, while Isabel I of Castile chose to live in the city.
It was built to house the troops and protect the Alcazaba, widespread use of artillery.
Currently, the castle can be visited, and from there you can see magnificent views of the city of Malaga, a few mountains of the Rif Mountains (in Africa) and the Gibraltar Strait.
In the magazine of the castle there is an exhibition showing elements of everyday life throughout history. It begins in the fifteenth century and ends in the twentieth century. Also there are several soldiers in the garb typical of each period, in the sixteenth century Alabardero, in the seventeenth, the Arcabucero, in the eighteenth century, a soldier of the Regiment Fixo of Malaga, in the nineteenth, an officer in the infantry Reding No 3 and in the twentieth century, a soldier of Bourbon line 17.
It also includes a model of the city with buildings of our time surrounded by ancient walls surrounding Málaga.
Gibralfaro is a mountain of 142 meters, located in the city of Malaga (Spain), aroundwhich the Phoeniciansfounded the city. In the early fourteenth century king of GranadaYusuf I built the castle at its summit the same name, on an ancient Phoenician site alsocontained a light, hence the name of the hill (Jbel-Faro, or rock of the lighthouse).
The mountain is covered by a thick forest of pine and eucalyptus. In her lap, are the historic buildings of the Seminary and the Citadel and the Gardens of Puerta Oscura.
Currently, a pending project seeks to safeguard the forest and its environment from anyurban intervention andstrengthening it as recreation space ciudadano. Anotherproject is planned to build a cable car linking thecenter with the castle Gibralfaro.
