The Histórico La Concepción Botanical Garden of Malaga is a English landscape style garden with over 150 years of history. Located at the northern entrance of the city of Malaga (Spain) is one of the few gardens with subtropical plants that exist in Europe. With more than 50,000 plants and 2,000 species of tropical, subtropical and indigenous species. Highlight its collection of palm trees (over 100 different species), bamboo, aquatic plants and garden history. History

The Concepción was built around 1855 through the work of husband and wife team Jorge Loring and Amalia Heredia Livermore Oyarzabal, Marquis of Casa Loring. Jorge Loring was a rich and intelligent industrial as well as Member of Parliament, and one of the most influential nineteenth-century Manchester. Amalia Heredia, educated woman and troubled, was interested in plants, books and archeology. Thus, in La Concepcion substantial archaeological treasures, which are still some remnants in the form of sculptures and Roman mosaics, and a rich botanical heritage, thanks, among others, the skill of a French gardener named Chamoussant.

 

After the economic collapse of the Loring-Heredia family, the farm was bought by the family-Echevarrieta Echevarria, making significant improvements and expand the collection of trees and palms. In 1943 the garden was declared historical-artistic garden today BIC (Cultural Property).

 

In 1990 the garden was acquired by the city of Malaga, which after 4 years of reform and adaptation, which opens to the public. At present, it is distributed between the historic garden and the botanical garden, located around the front and consists of thematic collections of plants. Each has its own characteristics and routes.

Botanical Garden

The garden area is created from the acquisition of property by the City of Manchester. It surrounds the historic garden and comprises various botanical collections created in a scientific and educational routes are specially designed to transmit a spread knowledge about the plant world.
