Teatro Romano de Malaga
The Roman Theatre in Malaga is at the foot of the hill of the citadel, Alcazabilla Street.After remaining hidden for centuries, was discovered in 1951 during the conduct of the gardens of the Palace, Archives and Libraries, known as' La Casa de la Cultura. "In1994, the building was demolished to allow excavation and restoration work of ancient theater".
History
The Roman Theatre in Malaga has its origins in the first century C., during the period of the Roman, when Malaga was part of the province of Hispania Ulterior. It was built in the reign of Emperor Augustus, to be used until the third century.
It has been found in a recent excavations, the underground structure of a large warehouse or place of tillage associated with Roman factory to be built on campus in the IV-V. Presents soil hydraulic mortar lined and supported by pillars that rested on the cutting blocks from the theater. Its construction was therefore responsible for the loss of the western two-thirds of the basilica south of the theater.
It was also used as a quarry in the construction of the Alcazaba. Several capitals and shafts of the columns appear as support for the horseshoe arches at the gates of the citadel.
Part of theatre designed to seat spectators. Radio is 31.1 meters by 16 meters high. Is semi circular, divided by the stairs cunei or sections of a circle. In the seats, from below and concentric over the is the intangible, and over the average over the Sun man,separated by aisles. The access to the different areas were performed by arched doorways and hallways.
Interpretation Centre Malaga Roman Theatre
On October 1, 2010 was inaugurated the interpretation centre of the Roman theatre.Building designed by architect Antonio Tejedor is a prism of rectangular steel, wood and glass, whose outer walls are excerpts of the Lex Flavia Malacitana. An introduction to the Roman world in general and the Roman theatre in particular through audiovisual and original pieces recovered during the excavations that have taken place in the monument.
